ABOUT THE SHOW

Nathaniel Thompson documents the subtle changes in Southern Georgia landscapes and invites the viewer to gather in the fleeting ritual of viewing photos together. His work toes the line between memory and reunion, capturing the feeling of nostalgia when recalling a place of the past and viewing it in the present.

Through vignettes of familiar rooms in the familial hierarchy, viewers are able to step into what used to be common storytelling spaces. In conjunction, with photographs of Southern Georgia documenting Thompson’s last three years of anthropological photography, the viewer is able to travel through the ephemeral landscape and timeworn vernacular of the Deep South. Common themes of blank signs, home dwellings, and peaches bring back the memories of commerce in small-town Americana. With swift changes in technology and digital advances, the viewer is given the choice to explore the living room, the office, the gallery, and the ephemeral digital and analog ways in which we consume and share memories.

Reunion is a heart song for Georgia and collective memory, a warm retelling for those who cherish the dwelling, and an introduction for those new to the environment.
